Sustainability

“At Traina, we take pride in our past; we believe in what we do,
and we are excited for what is to come.”
– Willie Traina

Rooted in Sun Dried

The sun-drying process is deeply ancestral. Rather than toiling against time, we adopt the pace of the sun and, with it, unparalleled quality, flavor, and environmental benefits. Synthetic drying processes utilize microwaves, dehydrators, and other equipment to quicken the drying process. While we work to maintain and improve our process for a better environment and product, our 100% Sun Dried Guarantee emblem embodies our commitment to tradition, health, and a better planet for tomorrow.

Harnessing the Power of the Sun

The Traina dry yard facilities are utilized to sun dry fruit. Sun drying is the process of laying the fruit in the California sun and then using nothing but the rays of the sun to dry the fruit. The sun drying process is extremely energy efficient and uses less fossil fuels compared to other drying processes. Sun drying works alongside nature to dry every piece of fruit to perfection in a sustainable and mindful way.

Improving Air Quality

At Traina Farms we cultivate the growth of more than 110,000 organic and non-organic trees. Trees improve air quality by directly removing carbon dioxide from the air, storing carbon in the trees and soil, and then releasing oxygen into the atmosphere.

Regenerative Farming

Traina takes pride in actively pursuing regenerative farming techniques. Through using recycled compost, and minimal harsh additives, we contribute to a favorable environment for beneficial wildlife. We believe we are creating a better tomorrow for our farms and our Earth.

Organic Farming

Traina continues to transition more of our farms to practice strictly organic farming with over half of the farming operations organic. Since organic farming does not include the use of synthetic pesticides or fertilizers, organic farms tend to have more fertile soil, use less energy, and more efficiently remove carbon from the air.

Preserving Water

The Traina dry yard facilities use minimal water throughout the entire drying process. Traina farms’ irrigation techniques are highly efficient and conserve more water than other irrigation practices. Our irrigation techniques include drip and micro irrigation.

Sensitive Pest Management

Traina Farms has implemented an Integrated Pest Management Program which is an effective and environmentally sensitive approach to pest management.

Upcycled

A significant portion of the fruit dried by Traina is upcycled fresh fruit which means it would have otherwise gone to waste had it not been turned to dried fruit. This process dramatically decreases waste on the fresh fruit market.

Reducing Food Waste

Traina Dry Yards prides itself on its efforts to reduce food waste and water. By upcycling by-products and implementing efficient waste management practices, Traina not only reduces food waste but also maximizes the value of every part of the fruit we process. Our commitment to contributing to the circular economy while reducing our environmental footprint is integrated into everything we do,
driving us to continuously find innovative solutions to minimize our impact on the environment.

“Our quality dried fruit is grown and made in concert with the land,
the climate, and the human hand.”
– Willie Traina

Cost Effective Applications Decreasing Food Waste

Traina Foods creates an outlet for all sun dried and dried fruit by selling and marketing various quality grades (sorted by color) of finished fruit. Traina Foods’ research and development team keeps sustainability in mind by creating practical and cost-effective applications for all quality grades of dried fruit. This practice decreases food waste and increases upcycled product while making our fruit accessible to more customers with various applications.

Reducing Emissions

In our effort to decrease our reliance on fossil fuels we have equipped the Traina Foods processing facility with an extensive network of rooftop solar panels in order to harness the renewable energy of the sun. We are proud to consider Mother Nature herself a valuable member of our team. Across all Traina operations we are transitioning to electric forklifts, electric utility vehicles and hybrid ranch vehicles. Across all Traina operations we also recycle all batteries, tires, corrugated material, wood, jugs, and light bulbs. We continue to work to find responsible ways to dispose of a higher percentage of plastic and poly materials.

Valued Employees

At Traina Foods, we feel our employees are an important part of a team effort to produce high quality dried fruit. Since our success depends upon the dedication of our employees, we make our employment decisions based on merit and do not discriminate based on race, color, creed, gender (including gender identity and
gender expression), religion, age, national origin, or disability. We pride ourselves on being an equal opportunity employer and we are committed to providing our employees with a happy and safe work environment free from harassment, disrespect, and other unprofessional conduct.

Strong Partnerships

At Traina we prioritize transparent communication with our partners. We work closely with our suppliers and other partners to align goals. We also provide a Supplier Code of Conduct to all partners that lays out our values and expectations. These collaborative efforts in transparency, sustainability, and standards alignment reinforce our commitment to delivering sustainably made premium food ingredients.

Commitment to Community

Traina Foods is an active member of the community by supporting individuals and organizations in the local Central California area. In keeping with our tradition as a family of farmers, the Traina family contributes to the local chapter of the Future Farmers of America as well as additional agricultural organizations. But our impact reaches further than that as we also contribute to a number of educational organizations, non-profits, and public support organizations. We recognize that the strength of our community is the best investment we can make to ensure a better tomorrow.

We embrace and continue to build our Environmental, Social,
and Governance Efforts (ESG).
